Postcode and property data

Look up what the open registers say about an address or area: energy rating, council tax band, local authority and the age of the house.

Where this data comes from

Most of what you might want to know about a home is already published by public bodies, just in different places. Energy certificates sit on the EPC register, council tax bands on the Valuation Office Agency list (or the Scottish Assessors’ list), sold prices with HM Land Registry, and flood risk with the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales or SEPA. These tools explain what each record means and take you to the right one for your postcode.

Nations work differently

England and Scotland still band council tax on 1991 values, Wales on 2003 values, and Northern Ireland has domestic rates instead of council tax. Energy certificates in Scotland and Northern Ireland are on separate registers. Each tool asks where the home is, or works it out from the postcode, so you don’t get England’s answer for a home in Cardiff or Perth.
